The Supernova Of 1054 Part 1

The Magi followed a bright star in the heavens. Debate is heavy as to whether what they saw was a kind of nova. Traditionally, though, novas tend to mark the death of something more readily than the birth of something. On July 4th, 1054 a death was being announced in the heavens. It would be over another 700 years before any birth would fall on the same date. A lot of death happened before that date came into being.

What was the possible trigger for the 1054 nova? Looking through historic events, this is when the “Great Schism” in the church between Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox took place. Most date this event to happening on July 16th, but probably the wheels were in motion on July 4th for what was to take place. (Certainly the heavenly ones were.)

Several places around the world recorded this event, which was visible in the sky for 23 days and in the night sky for two years thereafter. Chinese and Japanese observers took notice of it. The Pueblo Indians carved its appearance in stone.

The explosion is considered to be the origin of the present crab nebula, while the star itself appeared in the constellation of Taurus.

Tensions between both sides of the church had run high, but the split is said to have occurred over whether or not communion bread ought to contain leavening. The Eastern Orthodox thought it ought to, whereas the Western Roman tradition felt the opposite.

Exodus 23:18 makes things clear:

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

If the Messiah is the lamb, it is obvious that no leavening should accompany a meal that is symbolic of being “on the altar”. Thanksgiving breads could be offered with leavening, but these were not on the altar.

Leavening is a concept that links to something like ego presently. When ego is spoken of here, it is the ego that is not subservient to the spirit of God but rather does what it prefers. It is somewhat ironic, then, that the split between these churches happened because of ego. Believers are told quite stringently that this is not to occur among them.

Amos 4:4-5 makes the point clearly:

“Go to Bethel and transgress; rebel even more at Gilgal! Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days. Offer leavened bread as a thank offering, and loudly proclaim your freewill offerings. For that is what you children of Israel love to do,” declares the Lord GOD.”

In other words, the leavening is the same as bragging about what a “good person” you are.

The outcome of this argument resulted or occurred in the described Supernova of 1054. As it happened in Taurus, one is invited to consider values. In that it is purported to be responsible for the Crab Nebula, one is put in the mind of sheep as the sign of the crab relates to the sheepfold and Ursa Minor in Hebrew thinking where the stars are concerned. Specifically, it relates to those who believed before Messiah came.

Surely, the Magi fall under “believers who were around before the time of the Messiah”. Perhaps the break in the Churches then, symbolized some of the same. More will be said on this them in posts to follow.
